Floods in Ibadan.

Ibadan the Oyo state capital, one of the largest cities on the African continent is a city well known for her vast lands, hospitable people and economic and industrial advantages. But some parts of the city has now been thrown into chaos, a lot of people rendered homeless, lots of lives were lost, lots of property lost too in the flood which took place on the 26th of August 2011.This happened as a result of the poor drainage system in this parts of the city, and as such led to some of the major rivers in the cities overflowing their banks and spilling into the areas, sweeping away all in their paths.

Subsequently, the state government embarked on a formal  investigation into all the all the houses blocking the drainage system, all illegal structures are being demolished and the road network is being cleared up for dualisation. But these measures are apparently not enough, seeing as we still have too many houses blocking the paths of many of the major rivers. As a result the rains which are now receding and falling heavily are now causing devastation in its paths every time. This was the case in the Old Ife Road area of the state precisely Gbagi Market, Akingbade where a little stream as it were, overflew its banks and it became a large river, sweeping away all in its path.
